Capt mike may have he's fishes over that way. If I lived over that way and didn't have a boat I would call capt mike thats on here a book a crappie trip with him.
Mallows has the struchure. Mallows has the curent. Mallows has the bait.. but they do not have the proper salinity. Just a wee bit to salty for crappie. Also the creeks behind the bay do not have the proper depth/spawning areas.
Aquia and Potomac have crappie way back in them.
Mallows does have some big bluegill in it.

Never been there. Ha! Ha!

Actually, I met Tom Roland there (after buggin' him for a year) and was the first to launch when they re-opened the new ramp.
My best Black & White both came from there. It has been eons since I've seen a White that far south though.

I've been fishin' there since the late '60s and the salinity comes and goes. Sometimes it's chopper bluefish & crabs hittin' a plastic worm, but mostly bass & crappie. The structure in there has mostly been removed, but still some decent spots. Prior to the hydrilla, the fish (or their locations) were more defined by wood but now they spread out more.
Good luck!!!
Second pic from bottom:
Fished Renagade Tourny in 1992 in there. A man with a shotgun came out of a little shack just like the white one there and started firing over our heads to get out..
I had a portable marine radio and heard the state marine police locked him up.
One of the fisherman in the bay had a bag phone on his boat and called the fuzz.

John Wilson owned the property, he did commercial fishing and had an old guy (Wendall Ford) that lived in the shed. But both were gone by tat time. Mr. Wilson's family were very undecided how to deal with the estate and during that time they were trying to run a private yacht club (Ha! Ha!) and then the property went into a flux situation and only God knows who the heck was runnin' around there. Finally the property was sold to the State and/or Charles County.
In the composite pic, (the two sheds shown) Mr. Ford lived in the wooden one on the left and is now gone, while the block one (Wilson's icehouse) on the right is still there and has been redone by the County and used for storage.
During the public input period, the paddle enthusiasts tried to get a cartop only launch, but the County's Director of Parks (Tom Roland) fought hard to have a ramp and won. There had always been a ramp when Mr. Wilson owned it and charged $2 to launch. Tom Roland and myself were but a few that had actually used the Wilson ramp in years past.
The new ramp is narrow by most standards but my problem with it lies in the unusually tall pier which is also very short, makin' one (old/fat) man launch, tough. My 20' X 96" Grizzly fits fine but is tough single handed for me.
Tom and I fished together a few times. His wife was in charge of tourism for Chuck county and helped me many times when I first started my guide service.
Maybe the year is wrong..anyway I will always remember the gun as he fired it over our heads. Kept yelling about he is in charge of protecting the boats half sunk at the docks.
