Picking Slabs off a Rock Pile - Milford
Went out today on Milford, not many boats out and was surprised at that. The ramp I put in at over at School Creek is getting close to being unuseable. Pontoons may not be able to use it but I think for any one else it should be good for another couple of weeks....keep the motor up. Been taking lots of photos of the low water areas also, stumps, foundations, and such.:dono
I tried a couple of spots after I launched then I ran to a spot I stumbled on a month or so ago after one of the old farmers told me about. Kind of strange that its in about 16fow, there are a large pile of quarried limestone blocks just piled up, on the electronics you can see the sort of squared edges. Total area about 2x the size of a pick up truck. They are up north on the flats near the creek channel. Must of been dumped there during the building as they are quite a ways from the Rock Quarry. If the water drops another 3 ft they could be a hazard but right now I call it the "Slab Castle". Not huge numbers but really good size fish being pulled off it.
:cheers2
The water temp was 50f and I just kept popping my 1/32 orange and black jig heads with Bobby G Baby Shads up over them and around them. The Watermelon wine & Vegas colors worked pretty good but the they brought the hammer down on the Bluegrass color. I hung one that I lost after playing it and when I pulled the jig up the hook was straightened. I was using fine wire jigs but still.....
I used the net on several because I was afraid I would loose them trying to horse then over the side into the boat. They had thick bodies. Been mostly using Cajun Red #6 test mono on my 12 & 14ft B-n-M poles, tried the power pro yellow braid first but not nearly as many catches as the Cajun Red, I really like this line....its cheap too and thats always a bonus. :twocents
I tried using slab bandits and they caught some fish but the Bobby G's were what the wanted. I have been keeping them soaked in craw oil, not sure it helps but I feel better using it. When I did see a boat I just pretended I was Blue Cat fishing....:fish
Anyway it was a really good day..........:highfive
