I have tied up Lord knows how many trout flies in my day but this is the first time I can remember making up crappie jigs.
After reading several post and seeing some pictures I thought I would give it a try.

Anything besides painting the heads that you think I should work on or tips would be appreciated.

I would get some chenille and Neck Hackle or Marabou to tie. I mean hair jigs are good and have their place, but chenille and feathers are a main stay as well. Some guys would find fault in the tails being too long, but I am not in that camp as I like long tails.
Where do you live? we need to get face to face and I'll share some materials with you and shorten the learning curve. I know we're pretty close.

Any trout fly you can tie can be tied on a jig!! Just watch out how many times you get jabbed with the hook. In tying flies the hook point always goes down in the vise, with jigs it's hook up when you tie them - just have to be a bit more careful. If you want lots of ideas look through the sticky on jig photo's and right here in the jig tying section you'll find plenty to keep you busy!!!!!

Hook up? I have always put my hook in the vise with the point down. Should I try it the other way?
Hook up is for when you want to tie fly patterns on jig heads. Because the hook on a jig rides up you have to tie the pattern between the hook point and jig head or the pattern would be upside down.
