Get in touch with your local Propane dealer and he should be able to help you.
I have been using Ferrell gas at my house now for over twenty years - I'll try them. Thanks, I didn't think of that.
I've been pondering about doing this also...if you would....keep us informed and maybe even some pics...GREAT THREAD!!!!
I'll check next week - will let you know.
Found this website to buy kits : Generator Conversion Kits to Propane and Natural Gas. They cost about $200 for kit and hoses/reg. also did a little research on fuel usage, found gas gives better fuel economy, If you have propane/NG that may not matter. hope this helps!!
Thanks for the link. On your research concerning fuel usage, what do you figure on the run time off a 25 lb cylinder? Also, I have a 200 gal tank at my house that supplies low pressure. I wonder about whether running off low pressure or the the high pressure cylinders - I would think that high pressure cylinders would equate to x gallons of low pressure, any thoughts on this? As some of you know, gasoline is hard to come by during the storms. Also a pain in the a.. to continue to fill up. Thanks for the input.
Propane is same in both tanks and is reduced down by your regulator. I have only delt with it on tractors and forklifts. You don't get quite as much run time but in a storm situation that's least of your worries. Also a big plus is you don't have gas sitting in tank and carb for long periods to gum up. If you get it converted you could get a hose and adapter to charge small tank right off your big tank also.
Gas gives about 12 to 14 hrs per 6 gals. propane gives about 10 to12 hours per 25LB cylinder, this is for a 5000 watt gen. Also note load and type of gen. will make BIG a difference in run time. Now if you have a 200 gal tank you can hook directly to it, the reg brings it down to 1/2 lb.. Check with whoever you get to fill it and they could give you an idea of how many lbs that is.
