Any of you guys use this for shooting laminate baits, if so, is it worth the money? And when you guys use bigger bait molds do you preheat the mold? I am having alittle trouble with a couple molds leaving dimples in the baits, after using the mold for awhile it isnt as bad. I thought about trying to preheat the mold, but thought I would ask someone with more experience first. If you do preheat the mold, what temp is safe and will not damage the mold? Thanks guys
I have a hot plate I use along with a microwave. I cook two pyrex cups at the same time. when the plastics are the right temp, I pull them out and put them on the hot plate. During the heating of the plastics, I will put my molds on the hot plate. My plate is set at 350. The plate will keep the plastic hot long enough to get a couple good shots of the molds in before the plastic has to be reheated. I use the bass tackle twinjector with the blending block. It takes some getting use to after You have been using a single injector for a while. I like the results so far. The only thing is that I have 3 molds of the same bait but can't do more than 2 because the colors start mixing up or the blending block coold too quickly before I can get 3 done. That is why I use the hot plate. It gives me enough time to get the plastic out of the injectors and block and then shoot again. My first shot is just about always perfect shots with perfect laminates. The reason I went to the twinjector is because I was having problems with cold cracks when using a divider plate. The only problem I have with the molds now is that I have some older Jacobs molds that the sprew hole is too small to use the twinjector on. Newer Jacobs, bears, caney creek, bass tackles work fine.CF
bass tackle twin injectors is number one in my book they have a very high quality injector we love it to death we have the same problem after about two shots it gets cold you have to either clean the injector and colorful hot plastic again I have stopped the injector in both of my Pyrex bowls and slush it back and forth in the injector that get some practice before you do this we've also used both sides of my molds for two color baits but it is much easier to use the twin injector and they come out a lot better I do not use hot plates or anything like that to keep my plastic warm IUC put plastic back into the microwave and reheated we do use two microwaves quite a bit and sometimes I run 4 0r 5 injectors and sometimes I set up as many as 20 molds at a time to shoot but number 1 for durability would be bass tackle we highly recommend their injectors 100%.Quote:

Dimples are normally caused by your plastic being too hot....and the shrinkage along the wall of the mold is different than the center of the bait. When the more dense center (thick) portion starts to cool...it "sucks in" the side ...and creates the dimple (or warping in a regular plastic parts mold). Get a good digital thermometer (NOT an IR) like the below link and let your plastic cool from 350 (you need to get your plastic to 350 for it to completely change state) to 320 or 330.
The below thermometer is highly recommended....and cheap too!
