Saline River Canoeing
I've been looking for a good spot close to Little Rock to drop in a canoe and enjoy a nice smallmouth float. I think I've narrowed it down to Lyle Park in Benton down to I-30 bridge on the Saline River. Anyone have any experience in this area? How about any other areas? I'll take all the info I can get. Thanks.

I have fished 3 of the 4 forks of the Saline River and the float you mention is a easy float. I hunt off the Alum fork and the float from highway 9 to 5 gets way less fishing pressure and is equaly senic. The put in take outs are not as clean and convienent but its a nice float. Just make sure they have enough water or it can make for a long miserable day. I usually just wade fish it from my cousins land now. One thing you could do is put in at highway 5 and wade fish up stream and pull the canoe thru the shoals then float back down. Thats how we do it now when I get a chance to go. One thing about it the Saline has real cool water even in August so its a nice wade fish or float, even when its miserable hot.
My favorite baits are a rebel wee craw or frog, a gold 3 inch rapala, a broken back rapala, and natural collor french fry stick style short worms and the faithful rooster tail.

Thanks Gooch. I appreciate the info. I'm looking forward to exploring the Saline and setting the hook on some brownies.
