There are a lot of great commercial jigs on the market. By adding some feathers,dubbing or rubber hackle these jigs can be made to be much more effective. A majority of the time the jigs can be fished without adding live bait.

Yeah me too like the frog one. Looked at their website and the back of it is flat which surprised me as the one in the pic looks rounded in the back
The hexifly is flat on the back. That produces a wobble on the descent which is where a lot of fish are taken on the ice. There are several other ice jigs with the flat back for the same reason.
Note that both it and the diamond to its right have cross-eyed hook rings. They are meant to hang off vertical at about a 45 degree angle down which really opens the hook gap to both upward chasers and those that come in from the side. There are quite a few ice jigs like that anymore. There are also some tiny shad darts with the hook bent down to that angle which gives the same effect. Most everything I fish through the ice either hangs like that or horizontal. They work just as well for dipping and other open water vertical jigging.
