The kip tail will have less action than marabou. I tie some for some guys that like to use the kip tail for shooting docks in early spring. I use it here in winter when they want the bait sitting still with no action.
Each have their time and place. It's more to do whit what one likes. I tie all of them.
The deer hair flares because it's hollow. I use all the hair in my drawer, some work better than others, but they all work good at different times. If you tie kip you might try using less hair than you would think you need. It's easy to work 2 or 3 colors together for a different look also.
they are all different in stiffness, bulk, texture, etc. I myself love to work with kiptail but it takes a while to get good tying with it. I tend to tip the kiptail jigs with a minnow, half a worm or crappie nibble, the marabou catches fish all by itself with no extra bait and the craft hair I haven't fished with yet altho I tied some jigs with it.
thanks for the info, i think i may try some

If the bucktail is giving you fits - try calf body hair.
also on buck tails find some Southern buck tails as it will be thinner and easier to use.
thanks Skip and Fatman i will give them a try
Crazy Angler should have some nice ones and lots of color for buck tails that are not the big Northern ones.
