New to Cypress Lake
Hello everyone. New to the forum and getting back into fishing. I fished ponds for bass and catfish in Minden relentlessly growing up. Recently bought and fixed up a jon boat with a 9.9 and want to try my hand at white perch fishing. I hear that drifting near the dam at Cypress is the place to go. Any helpful advice for this 'newbie'? This forum looks like a great place to start, and I look forward to making some new fishing buddies.

Get out in the middle in front of launch, drift fish with the wind if it is less than 10mph. Drop shiners to bottom and reel up 2 cranks. Use as many poles as you can handle. Catch and repeat (hopefully many times!!!). That is bacically all I do. Here is a link to a video of how I tie my rig to cover more of the water column. Good luck sir!!!

Thanks Jay! The video was very helpful! Can't wait to get out on the water. Do they normally bite in mornings or afternoons? Or does it really matter? With the time change it will make it difficult for me to get out there after work, but hey, that's what vacation days are for!! Thanks again.

Welcome Drummer! Just like drjay says, just drift in the 15-16' of water. Each trip might be a little different area but for the most part they will be stacked up from the launch all the way to the spillway, you will just have to locate them. As far as time, same thing different days different peak times, I like to go early so it gives me all day.

there are two places that you can get them. both are very close to cypress. willow chute grocery, which is just north on airline of the redlight at airline and linton roada. the other one which is only about a half mile from the launch is on the corner of linton road and parks road. it is called the country corner. you will have to drive right in front of this one on your way to the launch. goodluck.

They are a little slow, but are biting. Daughter and I brought home 12 with that many throwbacks on Tuesday. I caught 2 yesterday with a dozen or so throwbacks. I tried the setup that Jay showed in the vid. Had six 3/4 and 7/8 oz sinkers. Came home with one. Sure need to keep that weight just off the bottom.
