Got to learn to become a lefty!
Bowhunter, i had major shoulder surgery and i am dominate right handed. two days after surgery ol delmar and i were down at the spillway catching walleye. i just had to switch the reel handle to the other side so i could cast left handed and reel right handed. if theres a will theres a way. lol good luck on the surgery. i had the front part of ahoulder back part and bicep tendon all tore. let us know how it goes
I found a way to fish with the sore shoulder, tight lining with a jig and bobber retrieving very slow. they seemed to like the jig swimming steady at the slow pace, crappie were knocking the heck out of it and I didn't miss many hits and not using the popping motion sure did make it easy on me.
yeah birdie, I'm going to have to learn to do alot of things left handed, LOL. croppiemstr, one of the tendon for the rotator cuff is completly torn and the other one is partially, and the leebrom tendon that holds the bicep is partially torm also.
I think I would skip a few weeks to ensure many more seasons pain free......Who am I kidding? Just go until it hurts and then back off a little bit. hahaha
Good luck bow hunter; after the surgery you can get a crossbow permit.
I have had 3 rotator cuff surgeries. One thing I highly encourage is to request the arm mobility chair to use at home. The chair will move your arm and shoulder and you can pause it when it hurts. After the pain subsides you can either lift it and lower it as slowly as you want.
Good luck. Complete the physical therapy. Who is your doctor?
Crossbow, That would be good. Depends on if the insurance company will allow for the chair. Dr. Lee from Bonutti's Clinic in Effingham is doing the surgery, he did the left shoulder 2 years ago and did a great job but as far as the therapy goes, he said they will have to be careful cause this one is more seriois of the complete tear. I had to quit therapy on the left shoulder cause I was loosing range of motion in it, now I have full range and better than ever.
You not Bowhunting? I've Bowhunted for over 40 years and Crappie fished for barely 4 months. I'll be doing both but Bowhunting is getting the bulk of my days in November :)
Dan
Hey Dan, I had to take this year off of bowhunting because of the pain and I know right now is the best time to be in the woods cause the bucks are stupid and letting their guard down. Pulling my bow back for the first few times each of the past 4 years is what been tearing my shoulder up. I have my bow set at somewhere between 68 and 70 pound and have felt things tear. I only been seriosly crappie fishing for 10 months and can't get enough. There has been times when I could barely raise a beer can so I know it time to get thing straighten out, so I figured if I can get it done Dec.6th then I should be good to go ice fishing if we get any ice this year by the end of Jan. and if we don't get any ice then I walk the bank like I did last year and catch some crappies. I'm still going to gun hunt next weekend with my muzzleloader but I got steady sticks and can shoot it left handed and I will have my pistol also so it shouldn't hurt the shoulder any and got my son and nephew to load up my deer if I get any. With that being said, Good luck to all the hunters out there gun or bow and be safe.
