I'm needing help on a current project. I have purchased a I pilot 55lb power drive and a hummingbird 798ci hd si. My question are can the hummingbird be compatible with the universal sonar and if not does anyone have a way a man can install both on the bow? I would prefer picture ofthe two installed of possible. Thanks

Universal sonar will not work with a SI unit but you can mount your xducer on the trolling motor.
Ok, one question about that doesnt the trolling motor turn 360degrees? I'm really new to the ipilot an still trying to learn everything.
The TM will go 360 and won't hurt anything, nor will it hurt the Ipilot, the TM power cord will get wrapped around the head or upper shaft, you'll just have to watch it and spin the TM back to unwrap the power cord. If you longline, spider rig, etc, the IP will be a great addition to the boat. IF you mount the xducer to the TM, then you will need to VERY careful about the TM going too far around, as the xducer cord will get broken if you don't pay attention to all the cords/wires on the TM.
If you do mount the SI xducer to the TM, it will work but the picture will be distorted whenever you move the TM around. You can mount the xducer on the transom and put the HU up front, it all depends on how/style you fish and what will work for you. I have my HDS 8 w/ SS HU mounted at the console on a RAM mount, so I can view it from anywhere in the boat, xducers are mounted on the transom.
I also reccomend the RAM mount and turning the unit. The 798 will work with universal sonar, but it will be only able to use standard sonar not SI.
Ok yea I want to use the side imaging so I will mount the trolling motor an play around with the transducer an see what I like the best I guess.. Any more suggestion would deeply be appreciated.

They have to be maintained within a certain speed range to be accurate and its a good idea , but not effective. I really don't think you would get as much use out of one on the troller. To add a $250 transducer. Just my 2cents. Down imaging is another story.Quote:

It has a slot in the back of the shaft to route the cable thru.....
you just have to unplug the motor leads in the head and remove it, slide the motor and shaft out, slide the connector thru, and re-insert the shaft, and reinstall the head.......
You have to be very careful about spinning the motor 360 degrees as it will eat the tranducer cable on the powerdrive.........a non issue with my current ST-80 Riptide...
I did however use this setup for years until my copilot crapped out..........it had a bad habit of trolling along then starting to spin in circles........detrimental to the transducer cable if you did not correct it in time!

Still works great with foot pedal and autopilot.........can be upgraded to copilot for $150 and I have the white copilot covers and 2 remotes to go with it too!
