What mode do you mainly use when pulling jigs with Ipilot? ?? Trackback or Autopilot, or advanced autopilot? How close do you follow contours? I don't know ho to set up a poll and I am presently having some balance issues and not fully functional. How accurate do you believe you need to be or do you just troll around? Just learning about pulling jigs. I got the setting in the back of the boat part down pat.
zig and zag works better than most think.
the first setting, which i think is adv auto, in a decent cross wind will get this effect.
if no wind, you might want to try s curves.
you will see a pattern of more bites either onthe slow or fast end. adjust speed accordingly.
Tom, I imagine you may know this already, but you can deploy your trolling motor keeping it above the water surface, and have the track record function running.. Then you can run the contour line of choice with your gas motor, Once you finish recording the track at a higher speed with the gas motor, go to track start or track end. Set the cruise control button, then sit back and relax! I have been having some good luck trolling with a Capps and Coleman type rig. The crappie are around 12 feet deep, and with this type rig you can put in front of their nose. The wife has MS, and I've got a torn bicep muscle, so this is an easy and enjoyable way to fish for us.
I use autopilot or the one that keeps you/the boat on a certain heading and cruise control the majority of the time. I use cruise after I find the preferred speed for the day. I seldom use the record a track but that's just me.
I use the cruise control and autopilot feature. The advance autopilot will not react fast enough to keep you on a straight line, if fishing over brush this will drop lines and keep them hung. Longlining is about covering water for aggressive fish, so long, straight pulls are better. Once you find good fish, you may have to change to shorter pulls if fish are tight to one area. Though, with most crappie in my area being Black Crappie, they tend to suspend in open water. White Crappie will also, but are more prone to some form of structure. It may just be a grass ledge. When you find this zone it is sometimes favorable to yo-yo fish by turning off your prop a spell to drop your jigs, then start back up after passing the ledge.
I start by recording a track,if no bites within 1/2 hr. I start a new record. While recording I have it on the one that you push and hold till the circle goes away. I love following a recorded track, gives me more time to drink beer and watch rod tips, without watching where your going.
Ok. I have 3 tracks programmed in my I pilot I want to keep. Looks like most everyone is just trolling in some order or another looking for fish with no precision in pathway.
I am scheming on an autopilot based on the HDS network capabilities. I plan to program some routes is my HDS and let my autopilot steer the TM. I plan to use the gps data like a compass and get close, but not dead on accurate like a waypoint follower. My number of routes can be endless since they will be stored on an SD and uploaded and or deleted as needed to/from the HDS.
I need a winter project anyway. My brain is getting rusty. May have sit too long and part of the brain migrated to my arse.

I start by manually directing tm to go where I have caught fish before. I watch SI and mark schools, then I manually steer to go over those schools.
My speck fishing is a little different from most peoples situation. I'm fishing all blacks suspended in a lake that has avg depth of 14' that is devoid of any structure and has very little topo features. It is just a smooth bowl about 350 acres.
