live well pump

Yesterday while fishing my live well pump quit working, sort of. It is located in the bilge and pumps water into the livewell. It has 2 settings; continuous and recirculate. It runs fine on the continuous setting but after it had been in the recycle mode for a couple of hours it started pulsing on and off. I mean constant on/off not the normal on/off cycle that it runs when working.
My question is where is the circuitry that controls those functions? Is it in the bilge pump or is it part of the dashboard switch? It is a 2000 Model Basstracker 16.6 Pro Team.
Any suggestions on trouble shooting? If everthing is in the pump I will just replace the pump soon as I can find a long armed midget that can reach the thing.

It is in the dash switch. Bass pro sells replacement.

Thanks Sat. Since it runs OK on continuous setting would you expect the switch to be the culprit.? Only reason I ask is when it is pulsing it makes a funny sound like the pump is hung up, but flip it to constant on and it runs fine.

Sure sounds like the switch to me......if it was the pump it would not run at all

OK that was my thought but was not sure, Never had a problem with it ,so new ground for me,
I must say there are not many, if any, websites where guys are so willing to help out their fellow fisherman.

On mine there's a canister looking affair that is the timer section and they are replaceable on some units without changing out the whole set up. Hope you are stretched and have your contortionist moves all practiced up. Getting under the dash can be tough on old stiff bones like mine.

I have the same thing on my 2002 175.

Searay when you get to it check any slip fit wiring connectors. Had one that the connectors were coroded and lose that acted similar. Cleaned and mashed connectors in a little and reinstalled work good. If not it's going to be in that little pot that contains all the electronics for timer.

Well guess what, it is the pump after all. It finally quit running on any setting. The folks at Tracker Boats cautioned me to make sure it was the timer because electronics are not returnable. So I took the leads off at the pump, hooked my voltmeter to them and hit the switch. I got 12 volts and on recirculate it would cycle on and off so I knew it was the pump. I got it out of the transom by unscrewing the retainer nut on the outside and tapping the threaded inlet with a hammer and it popped right out. Now I learn that Rule no longer makes the thru hull live well pump so I got to find something to fit the hole this left in the transom. I am going to Atlanta to visit my Son and his family this weekend so I will hit BPS and see what they have.
May have to rig up someting to fit and work.

My Lund has a Johnson through transom pump.
Maybe they have one that will work for you if you can't find it elsewhere.
I did a search for Johnson livewell pumps.
