Rabbit Hunting

Me and a few of my hunting buddies are wanting to plan a rabbit hunting trip to Kansas early next year, and don't really know where to start planning! We are coming from Indiana, and would prefer something on the East side of the state, but would travel further if needed. My main questions are: Is there plenty of public land to hunt and where is it or is there a way to "hook up" with a private landowner for hunting, and is either better to hunt (public vs. private)? Also, I've heard from many people that you don't really need dogs out there, is that true? Any tips on where to start planning would be appricated and I thank you in advance for any info anyone can shed on this for me!

I am not sure how everyone else hunts rabbits but we always road hunted them right after a good snow. We would find the plum thickets and pick 'em out of there with a 22. This was in western Kansas so I am not sure how people hunt them here in Eastern Kansas.
Public Land should hold plenty of rabbits, just not sure where or how many others you will have to put up with to hunt them on public lands.

I have ran beagles many times on the pubic hunting ground around Hillsdale lake with good luck.

I imagine you would have excellent luck knocking on doors and asking permission at that time of year. But I also think that WIHA is open until the end of January too. I have rabbit hunted in prime areas plenty of times without dogs and come home with dinner. Just stomping some brush after a fresh snow is good times! But if I had a rabbit dog, I would definitely bring it.

there is a lot of wiha ground in kansas a lot in the western part of the state might get a kansas hunting guide for laws last time i checked road hunting in kansas was illegal good luck
