on 1/16 ounce jig heads what size do yall use
I use several, they are eagle claw 574 long shank size 6, vmc 9147 size 4 aberdeen style jighook, and matzuo sickle size 4, just depends on what type jig it's going on and weather I plan on tipping it with a minnow etc.
Over here where I fish 90% of the time we have a 12in limit so fishing for these larger fish I have modified my mold to take a #1 Sickle in 1/16 and #1/0 in 1/8. Normally I am fishing a 2in plastic tipped with minnow.
I typically run a #4 on 1/16
I use almost all sizes and both regular bend as well as Sickle hooks, but most is #6 & #4. One of the most popular jigs I ever saw though was tied on a 1/16 with a #8 regular bend hook. I tie it most on a #6 Sickle, but I do stock a few #8 regular bend for the guys that want that jig as it always has been.
Size 4 here.
Size #2 mainly!
I like size #2 on 1/16 oz. jig heads, plain and sickle.
Alot of people are liking the size 2 also on 1/16oz. From alot of the posts I ready. I even like a size 4 on a 1/8oz
I got to say that I like the #4 on a 1/16 oz. I will on occasions use a #6. I like a bigger jig in the winter and smaller in the Fall and Spring. Please note that some days you have to have a bit of everything with you. It will depend on what size of bait fish that the crappies are feeding on. That is why the variation in hook size on that weight of jig head. I will tell you to use what ever that you feel confident in using. Then you will be successful.
