Yesterday was not the day to chase specks at Diascund Reservoir. After 6 hours of drifting minnows, trolling jigs, and tossing jigs around structure, the total catch stood at 4 (including 0 keepers.) All I could find was gars...and they were biting. By the end of the day, my catch totaled 6 (with 0 keepers), but I had landed 7 gars. Not what I hoped for or expected. Two of the gars were large (10 lbs/42" and 12 lbs/46".)

The crappies in Diascund have figured out your pattern lol. Did you try and shallow water?
I'm no good at shallow water fishing, so I stick with deeper places that produce. Last September I did 4 Diascund trips, fished the same places as yesterday, used the same techniques, and averaged 74 (including an average of 13.5 keepers.)
Holy Gar balls thats a nice gar bet that was a line twister....
At least you got out there it's not often they get one up on ya they caught a break that round :fish

I can't make more specks, but removing gars from a fishery sure will improve the specks' chances of growing up to fill my frying pan!Quote:

The lakes formed by damming tidal rivers and creeks contain all the types of fish that were in the body of water that was dammed. That includes Chick Lake, Diascund Reservoir, and the various Suffolk lakes. The James River and all of its tributaries are loaded with gars.
