Question about outboard flusher

Can I use the "rabbit ears" outboard flusher on an old motor such as my 1967 Mercury 200? Or do I have to get one of those brass fitting flushers?

I use the rabbit ear type as long as there are water intakes on the sides of the lower unit. Now I won't use the ones that are plastic, use the good ones with the steel rod that goes over the intakes on both sides, plastic won't hold it tight and can cause the impellor to burn up
