It looks to be a fungal infection to an injury. This is not uncommon at all. Looks like something tried to make a meal of this crappie and missed.

It depends on how deep the injury is. If the injury is deep, which this one looks like it is, then the meat would not be good to eat. It's probably better tot release it and give it a chance to recover.
