Let me start off saying tim the boat looks great trailer u did a great job as well only fishing is after church with my 3 kids ages 2,8,10 in the pond on the farm hopefully work will slow this autumn-winter for a little me time on the boat,back to the Q and A part have an old but not to old 6 1/2 gallon tank what do you men or women would be the best way of cleaning without having to buy a new one any reply would be helpfull,thanks alot
In the boat I just got thru working on, I had a 21 gallon tank that needed cleaning..I just dumped the old gas out and put a couple of gallons of diesel fuel in it and sloshed it around for a while...Let it sut for a couple of days then sloshed it around some more and emptied it...Then I put some gas in it and repeated the sloshing bit...Seemed to work good...The seafoam idea on the FL board is good to try also...If you don't get it as clean as you want, I have a 6 gallon metal tank that is in good shape that I'll let you have
Put you a big hand full of flat washers in the tank and some gas and shake it all around, them washers will knock all that stuff lose . Pore all that out and rinse with some more gas , works good with plastic and metal cans. Been doing it for years.
I have always used a handfull of BB's.

May I suggest also if you have an old fuel issue that you get a gallon can of chem-dip carb. cleaner from your local parts store and pour it in the tank and let it sit for a couple of days. pour it out and flush with fresh fuel. you will have a clean tank. peea gravle works on a rusty metal tank would be easier if you had a shaker .my brother did that with lawnmower tanks but a 6 galon would git me tired :biggrin . Mr jimmy has a good idea especiley with a farnish build up in the tank . you could use a paint stripper not sure what it would do to the plastick tank .laquor thinner works to.

Above all else please do all this outside away from any kind of sparks. All these ideas will work. If you have rust and clean it out you might check local motor cycle shops for tank sealer.they usually reseal their tanks after cleang to keep out rust.
Thanks never thought of the bbs or the washers will give it a try at the moment it is sitting in seafoam
