What are the pros and cons of running a four blade prop versus a three blade. Also, would you use the same pitch for both?
I can only tell you from my experience on my boat. My three blade runs a few more mph and rpm’s than my 4 and the 4 gets out of the hole a little better, both are the same pitch. Every prop I’ve tried is different depending on pitch, cup and manufacturer and every boat set up is different. If possible try it before you buy it. More pitch has gained me more speed but given up hole shot, for a bigger bite I have had most of my props cupped.
Keeferfish thanks for responding. I have a 21 ft boat with a evinrude 250 on it. It is propped with a raker II 26 pitch 3 blade. I have a hydraulic jack plate as well. It doesn't matter where i position the jack plate. When i take off, right before it comes on plane it "blows out" and never really recovers. It will get on plane but it won't ever reach 60 mph. I was thinking about getting a four blade to see if this would help. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
27 four blade should give bite and top end. Have someone cup the prop. Test if you can. I can't imagine a 250 won't get 60 mph even with the current set up? Jake plate all they way down on take off and raise when on plane. Good Luck!
