Spiderrigging with I-Pilot question??

I am considering getting a Terrova with I-Pilot for my boat. My question is how do you guys that spiderrig with multiple poles handle the trolling motor when you need both hands to handle fish? I've had a few owners tell me the pedal is not all that good but I haven't tried one myself yet. Would definately love to have the Spot Lock feature just to keep me close to a brushpile while handling a fish, re-tying, ect.

I just turn on auto pilot and let her go unless I need to make a turn. Use the remote hanging around my neck. Now I don't do much fishing with multiple poles inrush piles or stumps. Have not used foot pedal but looks like it would work just fine if you are used to using one with pedal. Not going to react as quick as cable but just like learning to use cable go out and practice. Don't know I fished before with out I pilot.

Charlie got it right, you should be on auto pilot and not need to handle the TM while a fish is on. That is the whole point of auto pilot.
Also you should have cruise control on.

You just get to the speed you want cruise to take you and then push the cruise button. And I agree...autopilot and cruise control. You fish and let the tm drive the boat.Thumbs Up

There is gabowmans way or you can push the cruise control button (very bottom Left of remote) and then push the + or - until desired speed is displayed press cruise control button again and then the TM will do the rest

I always record a track just in case I get on em. If not record over it. But if its recorded you dont do nothin but fish and drink beer.

Dave- You'll never regret stepping up to Terrova with iPilot. I run 8 rods floating corks. When I'm working baits over and around BPs and other structure, my motor gives me fine control, or I can turn on spot-lock & hover in a fairly small area over the structure. Autopilot is almost always on--regardless of what I'm doing. When I'm handling fish, it's very helpful that the boat continues in the same direction instead of veering out of control and heading away from the good spot. The foot control is my backup if something goes wrong with the remote, but it's been over a year since that happened & the pedal is now disconnected & stowed away. If I did more longline trolling, I would get more use out of track record/playback and cruise.

The Ipilot has a cruise feature for speed control and will also continue on the same heading by pushing the small button with the "N" and circle of dots around the "N". The Terrova has autopilot which does the same thing but is based on compass bearing while the Ipilot direction control is based on gps heading. The auto pilot will wander a bit but will stay on track for the most part. I use the foot control quite a bit when longlining, its easier IMO to use the foot control when sitting up front. I have the remote around my neck so I can go to the back of the boat if needed or just want to sit at the console and watch the HDS for a bit.
