Red Oil/ Gun Guys
Red Oil" is an excellent lubrication for guns, and is used by many working gunsmith shops, military armorers, and individual shooters like us. I've used it for years with excellent results, and it's a lot less expensive than commercial products off the shelf. If you want to give it a try,
here's the recipe. The original recipe is for a larger quantity than most of us need, but can be mixed in smaller quantities. Another alternative
is to get together with shooting buddies and share the larger quantity:
Original Recipe Smaller Quantity
ATF (red automatic transmission fluid): 3 quarts 3/4 quart
10 weight non-detergent motor oil: 1 quart 1/2 pint
STP (motor oil additive): 1 pint 2 ounces
Hoppe's #9 Solvent: 4 ounces 1 ounce
The smaller quantity recipe will give you slightly over a quart of red oil. I store it in small plastic bottles with an application tip. Smaller quanity is number on right for some reason i can't get them seperated. This is something a freind sent me. Never used it.
