Go to a place like Bass Pro or Cabelas where they have a display of different ones. You can play with the buttons and get an idea of what they can or can't do. Its not perfect but it sure beats a picture and side by side comparison is a big help in deciding. Then once you get it narrowed down you can ask here about people's experiences with the make and model of the ones you like.
