I hate these things. Was slowly idling in the river when a good sized fish jumped out of the water ramming my poles and deflected across my boat. When I got ready to fish I noticed that 2 of the tips of my b & n poles were broke. Them darn fish I just hate em.
We gottem over in the river. Hate to hear about the poles. Did you see the post on the main forum with the injury one of those things caused?
Rcc had a friend that fished with me two years ago and one jumped in our boat and cracked two of his ribs. Them things are dangerous for sure.
One jumped beside my son riding on a knee board at Lake Chicot s couple of weeks ago. About 20 lbs. Would have been bad if it would have hit him. I guess there here to stay.
We had a BIG one jump in the boat a few years ago. Scared us to death and what a mess.
We have to many stories and carp to get started. If you start your big motor you better be ready to go. There is no idling around. I hooked one Saturday in the eye and he ran through all my lines.
Have had several jump in the boat in the past couple years on lower Cache / White area. They're not too bad in the main river yet, but get in a slough or lake and they are. Low water seems to really get em fired up. Last one that jumped in the boat landed in my lap and beat the tar outta me. We went a few rounds til I got a knife in his head. I got the last laugh though - cut his tail up and baited lines with him.
With the price of skeet anymore they should let us ride shotgun and thin em out.
On the lower end of the St. Francis river below the pumping station it is pretty dangerous to motor any more. We had one in the boat pushing 30lb last trip. I am surprised there aren't more stories about people getting hurt by them. When running our lines, we usually get hit several times over the course of a week.
The next time you come across a Silver Carp/Chinese Carp don’t get mad, get even. Eat It. I had wanted to try one ever since I started doing extensive research on them to see if they could be eradicated. Everywhere I looked all they talked about was how good they tasted. Well I caught a couple accidently a few months back and did just that. I filleted them on the bank and brought the fillets home to finish out. The YouTube video shows the correct way to fillet them to maximize the amount of meat you get. They are full of “Y” bones so be careful when eating.
I was completely surprised at how good they were. The meat is snow white with exception of the lateral “Fat” line that you want to completely remove. They have no fishy taste and are very firm when fried. Try one the next time you get hit with one. Don’t just get mad, get even.
