Hey all you jig tiers.
Perhaps you might consider trying your hand at making soft plastic baits too. I have even seen some of you posting on the DIY Plastics forum. Let me tell you that I was scared to death too when I stuck my toe in the water. After a while I found I could tread water in the pool. Now I believe I am swimming laps. BE SURE TO READ THE "DO NOT" STICKIES AT THE TOP OF THE DIY PLASTIC FORUM. They will save you from getting burned and makine a few mistakes like I did.
It is fun to be able to tie a few marabou jigs and then make a few soft plastic baits for yourself. Try it. You just might like it. Be sure to get a quality hand injector and start with a minnow type mold. Have some fun.:biggrin

I have always been interested in it and way back in the 1970's making my own soft plastic worms and all was fine until one day I had 2 or 4 molds going and forgot which one I poured when and thought it time to check one. Back then you would just pick it up and turn it over to see if ready, well I by mistake picked up one I had just poured and turned it over and the hot plastic ran out between my fingers and noting would help until it set enough. Even running cold water didn't seem to help. That was the end of me making my soft plastic worms!
I have to admit though I have got interested in it again!

I have been hand pouring for years (drop shot worms)...hit a wall... found this site and stopped fooling with bass stuff and wanted to do a Hal (type) fly made my own RTV mold and pop molds...never was pleased with the out come...the hand pours have a flat side which is ok but when you try to pour with the jig (already tied with feathers) setting in the mold....big problems...needs to be injected, (another big expence)...I do another minnow type bait with three -d eye's, caught fish, never went anywhere with it...now have another thought..on the float-n-fly side to make a hand pour soft plastic that has craft hair or crystal flash in it at the tail...I wish I had more time it could get crazy!!! I still have a gal. of raw liquid and diffrent glitters and quarts of concentrated sents...yep loosing it...sticking with tying for now!

Yeah, Nothing like melting Plastisol, adding color, glitter, scents, then catching a cooler full on em. Tying is fun too, I couldnt choose one over the other... Kiptail & Craftfur jigs work really well in the winter for me (gave up on marabou..Use it once and looks abused LOL).... and the Pintail minnow, paddle tails, and 2 in curlys do well longining and casting all year
