I have a neighbor who just got back from a year in Afghanistan. He is an old country boy from Minnesota, and I took him fishing as a sort of "welcome back and thank you". I didn't get a chance to take any pictures today, but if had some, they would look something like this:

We fished from 4:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., and caught 4 yellow perch up to 10", 7 bream up to 9", and 2 small, 10" green carp. We finally found the crappie right before dark, and pulled in 5 at 9" just before the sun went down. They were between 6' and 17' deep in 29 FOW. We pushed minnows on jigs and tossed jigs too.
I took that new 9.9 Merc out for a shake down cruise, and that is exactly what I got--a shaky ride. The carburetor needs adjusting. The dang thing will not idle unless the choke is pulled out. So, I had to leave it choked, put it in gear and give it gas, and after I picked up speed I could close the choke. Then, as soon as I slowed down, it would stop...unless I pulled the choke out! Dang it! Time for a warranty repair, and I only have .5 hrs on the motor!
We had a great day anyway.
Good luck,
ID

I'm pretty sure I can speak for everybody here when I say tell you're bud welcome home and thanks for your service. Hope you can figure out the motor and take him back.
-
Glad that you didn't let a not so good day ruin your day
-
You tell him thanks for his service and thank you for taking him out. Sounds like ya'll had a fun day other than the motor.
-
They are doing a good job of hiding at Burnt Mills. Hopefully you will find them next time. And definitely thank your neighbor for his service.

Thanks for the report, Have you checked your clamps, If those fuel hoses arent good and tight Itll give you problems.

glad yall got out. if all those little crappies are hideing i can see why its hard to find the bigger ones. when you get your motor right just think it will run 25 years with no problems. did you get a two or four stroke. see ya on the water. tite lines JIM.B

Idunno, I had the exact same issue with my new 9.9 mercury. Ran very rough out of the box and never really improved.
After a few trips and after each long run the engine would die if i got to close to idol and wouldnt want to start back up for half an hour. I had the carb adjusted and cleaned and now she fires up every time on the first pull and runs like a top. Don't worry i feel your frustration with that.
