no spark
i have a 2000 mercury 25hp 2 stroke , saturday tried to do a little fishing and the boat came off the trailer , started up fine then about five minutes later it just died.. it is getting fuel. but no spark.. i unpluged the kill switch wire on the motor. still no spark. any ideas what to check now? how do i check the stator? thanks

Stator is tested with an ohmn meter, readings between the black/yellow and the black/white, then between each lead and a ground. Don't remember the exact specs but should be a reading between the 2 and nothing between each and a ground. I see more switch box failures on the smaller motors than stators, and bigger hp motors seem to eat stators. no test for a switch box, it's stator test and trigger test then replace switch box.

when they say reading between black/yellw and blk/whit wires are you saying hook up red lead to one end of the blk/wt wire and the black lead hooked up to blk/yllwwirethen take a reading?? when i do that i get nothing.... then if i take the red lead and put it on themale end of the wire and the blk lead to a screw on the engine ground. then i get a readingof 850 the meter is set to 2000 ohmn scale?and on the female end of same wirewith the red lead and blk lead to engine ground i get nothing.. is this the way to test it???thank you kevin

Remove the black/yellow wire that runs from under the flywheel to the switchbox and the black/white wire that runs from under the flywheel to the switchbox. Between the black/white and the engine ground the reading should be between 120 to 180 ohms. Between the black yellow and engine ground the reading should be 3200 to 3800 ohms. Between the black/yellow and the black/white should be 3100 to 3700 ohms. If it is anything other than that, the stator is bad.
