Anyone fished Maumelle lately?
Stay away it's horrible. Just kidding, Bream have been excellent, numerous and big if you can find them, in deeper water now. Crappie are good if you have some spots marked with brush and the Game and Fish habitats have been holding both. I've caught Bass, Drum, Saugeye as by-catch's lately. The Drum have been large, 10&15 lbs.
How deep are the crappie?
My boys and I fished Maumelle yesterday evening. We didn't find the crappie. I didn't want to push the young boys patience so they'll want to go back next time.
We managed to catch 2 nice bream, a couple of keeper size bass, and a lot of dink bream. We had a good time. My 9 year old son caught the big fish of the day. That made his day and mine too.
Did you try any of the AGFC habitats? I hear there's some that are marked with buoys and some that aren't. Been thinking about checking those out myself.
The wind was blowing and the lake was pretty rough for most of the evening. So we tried one that was protected from the wind. By the time the wind died down, it was about time to go.
To amend my original statement, I went yesterday afternoon and didn't fish for Bream or Crappie specifically. I trolled 300's over some structure and G&F habitats. Caught small Bass, several in the 1 lb. category and a 2-1/2 lb. Chain Pickerel, lost about $15 worth of crank baits. One of the regulars told me fishing has dropped off this week. I'd fished Tuesday with a friend and we caught enough for supper. I did notice I'm seeing fewer fish on my Humminbird 597 ci HD DI. Maybe transitioning to summer pattern. For Crappie 20 ft. and deeper in and over cover. The lake is clearer around the docks.
Figures. Sounds like its about time to break out the catfish poles!
