Got a replacement for the original fuse holder the wires are some bit smaller than the ones that are currently on the boat, the new one holds a 30 amp fuse. My question is will the smaller wires effect the trolling motor or will they melt over a period of time,or will it be ok to use the new one. Hope i made that clear enough for ya'll to understand what i am trying to say.
I'd go with a circuit breaker. Uses the same size wire as the main feed. Much safer and a lot less likely to melt. Be safe and catch some fish.

It is possible for them to melt the insulation. The use of a circuit breaker using same size wire is a good choice. Or find a fuse holder that has or can accept the same size wire you currently have.
This may be a little extreme but it fits the situation...think of the main reason old houses burnt down...under sized wiring for the loads (amp draw) they were carrying.

I am leaning towards changing to a circuit breaker been looking at some on the I-net
whatever you do, do NOT go with a smaller wire - I've seen some CRAZY things happen with a buddies TM, and you do not want to deal with this.
