Trying to convert some Google earth placemarks(KML files) to (GPX?)to be read via SD on my 385Ci, I tryed this a year ago time and time again with no luck.
Ive got a pdf file to explain step by step using GPS Babel however, when I convert the file it says Complete....Even see the file in the correct folder with .gpx behind the title....But when I try to open it in Humminbird PC it pops up a error box...says not a valid gpx file, and dont get the second box asking if id still like to proceed.
Ive got placemarks set on one of my favorite lakes of brush, flats and points from when the lake was down 10 ft for dam repairs. Would really appreciate any help Thanks!
By the way Im using HumPC version: 4.1.8 Babel: 1.4.2 Google Earth: 6.1.0.5001
Make sure google eart is not saving them as.kmz files first, it does that sometimes.
It does try to save it as kmz, but I had caught that, switched it back to kml
This on line converter will do it.

This is a thread that I started about my problems. I entered some waypoints with a sd card that I downloaded some converted kml waypoints to gpx. Don't know if that is my problem but your post makes me wonder. BTY mine would create a file on my computer each time I would try but there wasn't anything on it.
When you convert KML to GPX, sometimes a delimiter is wrong or missing. Open the converted GPX file with easy GPS, then just re-save it. This tends to fix the problem in some cases. I am not sure of your setup.
exactly my problem ricky.. file convert seems complete then when i open it in humpc its not to be found in the folder i know i put it in time and time again
Try Cane Pole's post. He knows his stuff. I had already changed my waypoints from an earlier date, or I would have tried that. After many hrs of trying to fix this I did this, hope I didn't loose any new wpts. I do really think that the converted kml points were the culprits, and I didn't even mean to put many of these on my unit.
YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHH! Thanks so much Canepole! I downloaded EasyGPS opened the invalid gpx file and resaved it, opened it in HumPC, uploaded to SD and it worked perfectly, just came in from checking it on the bird, sure nuff' they're there!
