I'm wanting to upgrade my depth finder on my boat (2011 basstracker 175 TF) and plan on ordering a HB 998 to mount on console. My question is what else do I need to get the best out of unit?
My biggest fear is mounting the transducer on a aluminum boat. Anyone have any suggestions on HOW and Where on the boat is best.
Do I need to buy another transducer so I can see the depth at 40 mph?

I've got a 898 and love it. The 998 would be even better (bigger screen). Just follow the directions for mounting the transducer and you should be fine. Then get out on the water and learn to "tweak" the unit by adjusting the settings to get the best picture for your eyes. There is a ton of information on this site as well as others that can help on how to do this. You won't be disappointed.
I have a 2011 Basstracker that I wanted to put a HB 997 unit on. I found that the holes that were drilled and tapped for the previous depth finder were not in the correct position for the 997. This meant that i would have to DRILL NEW HOLES into the hull. Not being exactly sure where the new location would be, I opted to place a section of CORIAN counter top material on the lower transom to mount the transducer onto.

This allows me to, if i need to, make changes in location of transducer with out making more holes in the transom. Just remove the corian, drill and tap new holes and reattach the corian.
Any plate material that is thick enough to accept threads to secure the transducer mounting bracket.
I foolishly applied silicon adhesive to the back of the corian plate before mounting. Now when I want to remove to drill different holes I have to "break the seal" of the adhesive to remove the place. All you need to do is make sure that the screws that mount the plate is waterproof.
I have a tracker also,If you want speed out of it then do as I did and mount it on a plate and mount the plate under the step down near the drain plug near the center of boat, that way no interferance from motor with side image
So what ram mount do you suggest I get?
