Sit down in front of the TV and fit the hooks in the mold. It's a pain but when you go to pour you know they'll all fit. Some will have a longer eye to L bend length and these yu can try in a different mold. Don't mod a mold without dry fitting the hooks especially a pro series!!!!
Not really sure if i understand what you are saying. I was told that i shouldnt have to do anything for a #8 sickle but once I tried I seen it would not close properly. I just started pouring couple weeks ago soo im still a guppy at it.
I use sickles and did the mod to all my molds, now any hook I use will work be it a 570 or a sickle plus I dont have to dry fit first
Fatman is correct if you dont want to mod your molds you should sit down and dry fit first because when your are pouring you dont want to have to fight your hooks
Sorry Razor Heres a pic of what I mean http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/c...hookchange.jpg from the eyelet to the L bend on alot of the Red sickle hooks the length is too long to fit in the molds.
Now if you don't want to modify - put the hooks in and squeeze hard and it should seat the hooks. I had to do this with my horsehead mold and even then some of them are still to long to fit in the mold.
I've heard from some guys on another board that the black sickles are better as they don't have the extra length. All my Mustads, Eagle Claws, VMC, and a few Daiichi fit fine.
Your call about moding but with a pro series I personally wouldn't.
pro series 101 or 102? 102s probably won't pour well with a #8 sickle. I modded my 101 to fit the short shank of the sickle hooks, and a LOT of them still don't fit.
I am using matzous gold #8 hooks in a pro series 101. It seems the eye let to to L bend is a hair to short. I would rather not modify the mold. Its kinda odd but if i use the 4 slots closest to the hinge of the mold i dont have any problems with it closing properly.
