I caught a 15 lb drum and a 3.3 lb saugeye and many bass and white bass this week doing just that. No crappie. Bream are great right now there.
Lived 8 miles off Maumelle before moving up here. Crappie were tough, whites easy, cats if you find em real healthy. The crappie I did ever find were around the bluff sides of the islands and were large blacks.
Report back, miss that lake.
Best fishing I've ever done out there were the bream adn red ear. Redears get huge on that lake.
I had 3 hours to my self a couple of Saturdays ago. The white bass were nailing splatterback chartruse or solid pink Bandit 300's. I didn't catch the first crappie. I would love to find some of the bream I hear about.

I think it was there I caught a 1.25# bluegill on my catfish rig. Probably a 2/0 hook.
This time of year you have to scout the bluegill and redear on the beds. Look deep back in every cove, note where they are, don't fish then cause by the time you see them, they are gone in that clear water. Come back at least 30 min. later, small split shot, light line, #6 hook with a chunk of nightcrawler and cast from as far away as possible. Set the drag, those redear can break 4# line with some of their runs.
Find two or three beds before you start fishing then fish the circuit hitting each bed at least two or three times. You will fill an ice chest.
Call Todd Brittain. He guides for crappie on Maumelle. He goes by Blackfish on this board. PM me for his number. Great guy, and fisherman.

Thanks for advice. I hauled evrything out the lake. Just to see a good wind. I was warned about the wind on Maumelle. So I turned around. Did not realize how big it was. Any suggestions on parts of lake to pull cranks.
This time of year, I try to concentrate on the lower end. It is rough to try to follow the channels in the wind.

Do not dispair, the crappie are there. I love dragging crankbaits on Lake Maumelle. Lots of action - crappie, white bass, black bass, catfish, etc. Everything that swims will hit a crankbait when the water gets hot. When the thermocline gets more prominent, the fishing will get a lot better. Remember, the hotter the water, the faster you go. Too fast - and you will know it cuz it will be all white bass. Good luck and keep on trying.
