Peanut Oil Reclamation Machine

Not sure if anyone is interested, some folks have laughed at me pretty hard over this.

But Peanut Oil costs $38.46 at Walmart for one of those big box thingies. Using it once is awfully expensive. I have one of those outside propane 3-vat fish cookers and filling all that up with good Peanut Oil just to throw it away just makes me cringe.

You can reclaim it by straining it by hand, but it takes a long time.

SO, I conjured up this device......and just pour the COLD (don't burn yourself OR the plastic pieces on this using HOT grease!!!) grease through the top 'tea strainer'.....and poke large holes in both the red baskets and cover them with about 3 layers of paper towels (Viva works best, it seems). Make sure you wash all the plastic parts first. Then take the bottom container (I just use a plastic small waste basket) and pour from there into a sealed plastic container.

Good for 2 or 3 go-rounds.

I put chees cloth inside a tea strainer thingy (like you on your 1st layer) inside a funnel, and put the funnel back into the jug, and then freeze the jug untill next use.

I use Canola oil but even that's not too cheap. I always strain and reuse my cooking oil. Looks like you got it figured out.

I strain my oil thru one of these to get the meal out. I used to use cheese cloth until I found one with a small enough mesh. I hardly ever throw grease away (unless I burn it)...just keep adding to it as it is used.

I use a strainer lined in cheese cloth too. Cheese cloth ain't super cheap either but it's much cheaper than peanut oil. The price of peanut oil must be affected by the glorious decisions our federal government has made in regard to fuel production ie ethanol. I guess less farmers are growing peanuts and opting for corn instead?

i use the funnel shaped paint strainers. i put one inside a regular plastic funnel (as those used for engine oil found almost anywhere auto stuff is sold) and stick the plastic funnel in my oil jug. buy em at an ace hardware store for about 19 cents each. use once and throw away. mesh is fine enough to get everything but the stain out.

Great tip slater. I like the idea of using and discarding. Although my strainer works very well I'm gonna pick up a few to try.Thumbs Up
