I currently pull cranks on Sardis from 24" pontoon. Do you tooners have any tricks/techniques that help you catch fish? I run 1.7 mph. I run 2 BnM on each side and 2 short rods off back. seems i will go for long periods with no bites. Normally run 300 bandits bout 100 ft. back. Should i keep rods close to water surface? Add weight? Headed to cabin on sardis lake drive for holiday and boat load of teenage boys. Thanks for any help. Kevin
On a 300 bandit useing 10 lb. mono, 91 ft. out will get you down 15 ft. , 109 ft. out will be 16 ft. What depths are the fish showing on your Fish finder? always try to run your baits above them a few ft. Crappie will come up to hit a bait but will not go down. You talk about adding weight......weight is only used if you are pushing. You saying you have 100 ft. of line out tells me that you are pulling. When I was pulling at Sardis the other day we had our lines out anywhere from 45 ft. to 70 ft. and we caught a lot of fish......very few keepers though.
Same thing here, 100 feet of line seems a bit deep. Was just looking at some screen shots from Tuesday and most fish are 10-12 feet deep. We ran line between 45-75 feet, my arm was worn out from reeling in fish...too bad most were short fish.

What area are you fishing ? West of holiday lodge should be good .
In a pontoon boat your rod tip may be 10' above the water. If so, this should be included in your line out calculations.
Usally put in pats bluff. head toward clear creek and in front of #6 marker on south. Might head across and try between greasy and Holiday?? Thanks,
This year its hard to find keepers at sardis
I fished Saturday and caught 9 15"+ keepers with about 100 throwbacks. I was running from 1.2 - 1.5 mph and fishing from 14 - 18 feet deep in 20 to 25 ft of water. I used bandit 300s and some bombers with 3/4 ounce egg sinker in line on the bombers. I was fishing all around the mouth of Clear Creek.Quote:

Need to run a few more rods so you can try different color baits to see what they're hitting best!! You also need to get the book Precision Trolling. It tells ya the dive curves for most crank baits. With that book, you'll know about how much line to let out for the depth you need to hit.
