I don't use actual ice jigs, but I do use very small jigs (1/64 - 1/80 oz) year round. They work!
yes I'd use them year round in hard as as well as soft water. Look in the archives for the thread how to solder a pinmin. It shows you how to make them. Tip with a wax worm or red wiggler.
We use them some times, they work just the same. Ive tipped them with spikes, worms, minnows, and plastics. Some times you have to use a larger jig whith a bigger bait but they will catch fish. My friends have done real well with tungsten jigs and bobby garland minnows this year.
I normally use them with minnows in the deeps
