A little floatant and that would hunt. I know a bluegill hole that would keep him busy. Nice work Skip. 6/0 or 8/0 thread? That stuff makes me crazy. 12 is almost tiny.
I like those colors together and I'm sure the gill will like that fly. Nice work Skip :)
Thanks guys! I used some 140 Ultra Thread on this one. I do have some 6/0 and even down to 14/0, but have not had to use that year, LOL!
I really like that Lateral Scale and putting the UV Glue over it and the most cool thing about that glue is it will not cure until you hit it with UV light so if you palmer or collar over it and then cure it the hackle is suck in it too.
Where did you get your UV flashlight Skip? I have been looking for a strong quality one for quite a while but I am leery about buying one online.
Really like the fly, should hold together through some hard toothy biters for sure.
I'd like to know more about the glue as well, perhaps a goto link.
Nice Job Skip!

Let me look as I have 2 of them and the Loon one I have had for a good while, but I just bought some new stuff that is suppose to be better & was told it will cure the Loon, but the Loon light will not cure my new glue. I just got the new stuff and have not used it yet as this fly I used the Loon still! I need to make sure where you guys can get them if you want or I can help too. I am on my phone right now & will get back with you in a little while on my computer!
Here is a jig I did last year sometime using the same stuff!

Okay guys, Cabela's has what looks like a full line of Loon UV stuff and the power light and Bass Pro has some, but the mini light and it's not as good.
Cabela's: Search Results
Also you can go to Loon and find a dealer near you. On this link I see most, but they also have a larger bottle that is not shown on this page called UV Clear Fly Finish which is what I used.

I have seen more powerful lights like one made by Clear Cure Goo and the most expensive one I have seen is from Wet A Hook Tuffleye and even has an AC Adapter that you can get. This light isa like $75 so don't think you need that one. The others are something like $30 to $40, I think the Loon at Cabela's is $40, but think you can find it for less some place else. Also the Other light ClearCure Goo is said to be better than Loon and I am thinking about $30??
Most I have read puts Loon at the top as far as UV cure products for fly tying. I just can't see paying $30 for a UV flashlight when you can find them for $10-15 for much more powerful ones. I hoped you used another type of flashlight for it.
Still love the idea for those minute flies to keep the hackle on and give a shiny buggy look to small patterns. Just have to find a flashlight that will both cure the stuff and work for charging large glow in the dark beads and flash.
Diamond Creek is the go to for fly tyers I know. I fuss at em all the time.
Too much money to not just be patient, for me.
