Lake Allatoona Guys I need help locating Carp and Gar.

Like the title says need help locating Carp and Gar in Allatoona. I'm working on finishing up setting up my boat for some bowfishing. I haven't fishing for either in Allatoona before so looking for some help. I know some of y'all might have seen a bunch while out. I know y'all wont mind seeing some carp and gar disappear.

I should have it finished up next week.

Any large flats in the 2 to 4 feet range y'all know of.

My first trip im going to put in at stamp creek and run that stretch where boston comes in near the campground cause I've seen gar up in there.

Up stamp creek where the island is around shore up past the island.

Another is up the river past knox bridge heading towards the park. Just cause I've caught carp there a couple times.

But if anyone is spotting any id like to get on some.

Not looking for any crappie spots just large shallows to bowfish on.

Cody I would like to help, but I can't young man. I have not seen any Gar or Carp on the Toona in last few years not like I use too. The backs of Ambercrombie and Sixes use to be full of Carp in late spring.
As clear as the lake has been this spring you shouldn't have any trouble spotting them at night.

Last Sat 5/5/12 Gar were every where in coves. I caught a Crappie in a tree top and as i got top of the water a 5' gar came up and clamped onto him but got him away and netted. But the fellow had a big mark on his side. I saw a lot of Gar coming to the top of the water every place I was. Go and get a lot of them!

When you go upstream from Knox , go past Shoal Creek . About half way to the bend at Boling , there is a cut on your left . It is fairly narrow and looks like it deadends around 50' . It hooks hard back to the right . About a 5 to 10 acre slough . I have seen several bowfisherman back in there .

Cody, youre in for a blast. I bowfished alooong time and had a very fun time of it with friends and family. My advice...if your daytime fishing look for some grass or weeds in the shallows and DEFINITELY some clear water. At nighttime look on the shallow flats. Fish will be everywhere once the daylight is gone but in muddy water it's still tough. Go get 'em.....and be careful.Thumbs Up

Cody I was wrong and dihard was right again. I was on the lake last night with the fly rod and the gar were everywhere 5/15/12. Sixies, Ambercrombie and above Knos bridge.

I am not familiar with that lake, but if you want to take a road trip, go to the Alabama River and put in at Swift Creek or Cooters Pond out side of Montgomery. Go out to the main river and look in each bend of the river or around any sandbars. That river has the most gar I have ever seen anywhere. Some big ones too. Saw some really nice rigs coming out of Swift last year in the evenings headed out for a night of shooting. Those gar would be rolling on the surface like schools of tarpon. We would even catch them 15' down and you could see them on the depth finder. Those schools were so big that the school on the depth finder was the same school that was rolling on the surface. A shotgun or a semi auto .22 would have taken out bunch quickly.

You wanna have some REAL fun? Get to the place you wanna shoot before it gets dark (around sunset) and catch ya a couple of those 5' gar on a ML action spinning rod using rope lures. Talking about a REAL PULL!:yikes:biggrin:biggrin
