Kentucky Lake and Blood River in particular is still putting out some very good white and black crappie still. These slabs came off stakes in 6 feet of water. The red ears and gills were along rocky and rip rap banks. The crappie came off roadrunners with Kalin 2 inch curly tailed grubs in Tennessee Shad color

Good fish. I'd like to come down & get into them redears some year. I've never fished for them before.

I found a lot of big crappie out on some drops in the front part of the bays in 12 fow Mon. afternoon and then Tuesday after the cold front came through it was lockjaw time. I tried several places I had been catching some good redear and they seem to have moved back out somewhere. What kind of water were the redears in. This has been a weird year for the ears for me. Here one day and gone the next. The bite south has definitely been much better. We could use a splash of water!
I had about the same experience fish. Right before the rain came through the other evening I was nailing them off stakes in 6-8 foot of water. The next morning it was like they had disappeared. However by mid day Wednesday I was catching them again. The red ears came from 3-5 feet of water but I am only finding individuals. No groups. Those days may be past us. And you are right, we can use some rain for sure!
My Mom and a friend of her's met me at the lake Tuesday and fished a little while. I fished from dawn til 3pm, ended up with 20 keeper crappie. Didn't try redear. Crappie all seemed to be late spawners in 12 fow, males were still colored up. 19 whites and one black. Kind of strange bite, hit some good beds with 3-5 keepers but they were few and far between. Definitely had to let the jig soak to get them to bite.
