you came on here the other day when we were talking golf cart batts and stirred things up.banghead
we were talking 12V and you went and brought up 2 6Vs to make 12 Volts. splain me the good and how the numbers work and what kinda charger do I need.
After discovering the USBattery's I had were not the golf cart size I made an illegal post and someone bought the ones I had and now I am in the battery market so I need you to fill me in. Room is not an issue or really weight either since the 6Vs are about 30 pounds lighter.

The 6 volt Interstates I put in my RV to replace the 12 volts were actually larger than the 12 volt. I had to put an extension on the hold downs to clear the top. The big difference was the reserve capacity of the 6 volt ones. You need to compare the specs on the different batteries, it is possible to get 6 volt with less capacity. I'd go to a good dealer and ask him to lay out the specs on both and you can compare for yourself. I noticed a considerable difference in reserve when I swiched over. However, while this is a common arrangement in Motorhomes, I don't think I've seen it used in boats. Never undestood why.
Here is a good link that discusses this. The 12volt Side of Life (Part 1) Scroll down through some of the RV stuff and you'll find a chart showing different battery features and notice that the 6 volt is about 2 inchs taller than the 112 volt, but you are correct, they weigh a little less.

Cause they would fit his boat and I wanted the bigger ones, either gonna get the 12v Golf cart ones or a pair of the biggest 6v they have. Turned out the ones I had gotten were 31s and I thought thye were the others.

Our shop mechanic put two six volt batteries in the 24 foot dump trailer. I asked why not use a 1 12v deep cycle? He says two six volt are stronger and last longer and the battery salesman says the same thing. I dunno, but the first set lasted five years. They are taller and are not as long as group 29.

Back in the day a lot of Green carp pros used the 6 volt,s 4 of them for the old 12/24 motors. Reserve capacity was much better than any 12 volt at the time. That changed when battery technology improved. Biggest draw back was always storage because of size. PM Katfan he is really knows his business. He was in that business for years.

I looked into 6volt batteries back when I bought my batteries. They by far have the highest reserve capacity. The only downfall is you have to buy 4 - 6 volt batteries instead of 2 - 12 volt batteries and they are about the same price each so the cost is high. Also, I didn't have room for 4 batteries and was not real sure how to charge them with a 12 volt charger. I guess you could get some type of golf cart charger that might work. Good luck..
