SlabPappi,
There is no “Contrast” menu in the 1158c units. There is a Backlight menu and a Background menu and you can change the Sonar Color Palette but that is it.
In the 1198 unit in addition to the manus available in the 1158 unit it also has the Contrast menu (in the Si Enhanced menus) but this is only for the Si units. Could this have been what you were thinking of?
Thanks Greg. I Guess thats why i couldnt find it on the 1158. I have the 1198 on the console and the 1158 up front onthe trolling motor. I cant seem to get the settings right on the 1158 to get the quality of display I Expected. I had Anticipated with dedicated DI It Would be Awesome as I Had a 798 or 788 and it was amazing. What freq. Etc.would you reccommend for starters on the 1158. It is approx. 3 months old and has not had any updates in that time. Thank you in advance for being such an active and sincere contributor to this board.
That’s an 1158c DI unit you have there Papa. If you had a Humminbird DI unit before you should be able to use the same menu settings and get the same results.
Which frequency you use should be based on either the area you want the sonar to cover or the amount of detail you want to see. The higher the frequency the better the detail but usually at the cost of a smaller area of the water column/lake bottom that gets covered. Here are the frequencies and the areas they cover:
2D (conventional) sonar:
16 degrees at 455kHz, area covered = 0.28 X water depth
25 degrees at 200kHz, area covered = 0.44 X water depth
DI sonar:
45 degrees at 800kHz, area covered = 0.83 X water depth
75 degrees at 455kHz, area covered = 1.53 X water depth
Post back a screen snapshot of what you are seeing and some of us can make setting suggestions for you to try.
