Anyone fish the lower Chick River?

I was curious to check it out. Anyone fish it and where is the best place to put in?

theres a public launch on morris creek @ the chickahominy wildlife management area. its near the mouth of the chick. from what ive heard the creek holds a few fish. the other one that i know of is riverside but thats not far from the dam. from there access to the curve near the railroad tracks is not too far away. thats all i can give you hope it helps.

We use to put in at Gray's Creek and run across the James to it.

Tap there a several places to launch,you can use the rt.5 ramp,its on the Williamsburg side in the park cost 9 i think,just before you get on the rt5 bridge its on the right.if you get there early you can pay when you leave.Take the 199 exit off I64 near busch gardens and follow the rt 5 signs,you will go several miles on 199 and take a left to rt 5,just before the bridge is james city park on the right,you will see the pool,take that right and work your way to the ranger station ,the ramp is on back past the ranger station.This area will open up many miles of good fishing for you.Tidal mostly fresh or brackish water rivers and creeks ,the tide can vary of course but figure 2.5 to 3 ft rise and fall,lots of bass boats but it really doesnt spook the fish.Chart. jigs are the go to for me.Good fishing.

If you put in at Gordon's Creek (where rt. 5 crosses at the mouth of the Chick) and fish that creek, watchout during the low tide. The channel wanders bank to bank and the mud flats are everywhere. Go slow and be careful there or you can spend 6 hours waiting to float off. Not quite as bad in summer, since the lilly pads show where the flats are (mostly). Shipyard and Yarmouth are better. When I fished a lot of bass tournaments, I caught crappie in both while fishing for bass (of course they were just a pain in the --- back then). In January I made two trips to the lower Chicahominy. Fished those three creeks then with moderate results. The fish were hard for me to find, but pretty good sized, I was (and am still) learning to fish for crappie. Hope this helps some.
