Whacky map 76

My Garmin Map 76 (5years old) has a new trickbanghead. After finding the satelites and being normal for a few minuets, a vertical line appears on the screen and it looses all functions. I can't even turn it off. I can pull a battery to shut it off then repeat. But the line always reapperas.
Any suggestions?

That has happened to my GPSMAP 3 something or other. I figured it had just crapped out on me and bought a new HB unit.

I would be curious to hear if anybody has a fix for this. I had a handheld (Etrex with maps) that did the same thing.
