Yesterday, CrappieKeeper's transducer cable to his Humminbird 570 got pinched partially in two in the trolling motor mount. Can this be successfully spliced and covered with heat shrink tubing? We are not planning on taking out any more wire than necessary to make the splice. Also it is above the waterline near the trolling motor head.

I have cut out some of the wire so that the shield is long enough to twist together and cover with a piece of shrink, so as to not have a big wad of wires. Strip them back so you can find the correct length, cut and twist together, solder, and shrink. Shrink it all when done. Works good.
When you get done and heat the shrink, you can paint the outside of the cable with a product called Scothkote. It's a little pricey but it won't leak.

Yes sir, did the exact same thing with mine. I just soldered everything back together and taped it up. It worked just fine. I made sure that it won't happen again by drilling a small hole in the release lever, inserting a stainless eye bolt, and running the cable through the eye. I since upgraded to a 596 hd di and can not pinch the cable with this setup. I will try to post a pic later after I get out in the garage.
