three bank charger

I've got a three bank charger, cabelas prosport 120. One battery was not charged yesterday after being on charge for a week.

Getting a reading of 13 volts on two banks and - 1.?? on 1 bank.

Should there be the same voltage on each bank?

Is there any thing I can do to fix it or is it trash? It is an older charger.

I bought this charger used a couple years ago, the lead that is dead has been spliced. The splice has tinned wires and the tape is good shape. I checked the volts before the splice and got nothing. Appreciate it if somebody could help.

Sounds like a dead leg. Is there an inline fuse anywhere?

Once a battery gets below about 8V, the charger won't even try to charge it for safety reasons. Charge it with a portable first.

Yes there is a fuse at the terminal end that is good,no voltage before fuse. Maybe a fuse inside the charger?

I checked the voltage with the leads removed from the battery.

I put one of the good legs on the dead battery to see what happens.

Most onboards won't put more than 2V on the leads if they don't detect a battery connected to them.

Thats what I thought too.

So why is there twelve volts on two banks with no batteries connected?

Maybe they all have twelve volts and the amps change depending on the battery?

It looks like i'll get a new one for the boat and use it keep the charge on the mower battery over the winter.

I think most meters will load a charger enough to let it put out a charging voltage. Moving a good bank to the discharged battery and measuring the voltage there should tell you whether it is the battery or the charger. Should read over 13v if it's charging the battery.
