paint question

I have a quick question for you guys who have experience painting your own jig heads. I like using powder paint and the question I have is this, I don't have access to an oven and I could buy a toaster oven, but is there anything else I could put over the paint to seal it with to keep the paint from chipping. I live in a small apartment and don't have much counter space for a toaster oven.

Make a small wire rack that will fit inside a pot with a lid. Put an oven thermometer in the pot to set the curing temp on a stove eye or hotplate, then place the rack loaded with the coated jigs inside, cover and cure for required time limit. Jigs will be just as tough and chip resistant as if you cured them in an oven. Go enjoy your fishing.

hey black widow do you think the clear coat would work over the powder paint after it cools down?

Not black widow but yes. You'll have to heat up the jig again, after dry dipping, to get the powder to stick and then the cure will take care of the rest.

If nothing else get you some Sallys hard as nails clear fingernail polish.

You can use Devcon 2-Ton Clear Epoxy.

Thanks guys for all the feedback. I am gonna try the fingernail polish. I went rummaging through my fiance's fingernail polishes and she was giving me a weird look. she asked me what i needed it for and i said it was to help me keep her tackle box stocked with crappie and bluegill catching jigs and she said it better be all it was for. lol. thanks again guys this website is awesome

I use my regular stove but with the understanding with the wife that I CLEAN IT after use!!!!!!!! which I did last night!!!

I usually try to paint LOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when I go to use the oven cause I know I have to clean it. But and YES!!!!!!!!! I contacted Component Systems and they say it is NOT dangerous to do this!!! but I still clean it out just cause I made the deal with the wife.
