I had some of my guys show up this mornin’ to go fishin’. That would be my son Eric and my youngest grandson (8 y.o.) Garrett. They drove down from Pennsyltucky to fish with me. We try to get out once or twice a year.
This was the reason for my scoutin’ trip of a few days ago.
We anchored up and minnered for crappie. But of course it started with them damn pesky green fish.

But the ‘good’ fish showed up quickly. We ended up with about 10 or 11 bass up to 2.5lbs.
Someone was getting’ serious about it.

Dad was helpin’ some, but Garrett was gettin’ the hang of takin’ up slack and poppin’ ‘em.

By the end of the day, he was doin’ pretty good. Even unhookin’ some.

I think dad was a tad proud (not to mention granddad)

And I guess Garrett was feelin’ good to.

Of course crappie weren’t the only game in town. Garrett did need help on a couple fish he hooked. Ol’ fighter was acallin’.

Final tally was a lot of crappie (probably in the 100 range). I had brought 12 dozen minners and brought about two dozen home. About half were in the 11” to 15” range.
