Battery charging question

I just returned a group 27 ever star maxx battery to Walmart that was less than a year old. I went head an upgraded to a es maxx 29 125 ah battery. The charger I use is a schumacher 15 amp charger I have always charged my batteries on the gel setting is has a std and ATM setting as well as it shuts off so it does net overcharge I wanted to make sure I was using the right settings or not. I also charge on 15 amp and when it gets to 100 I put it on trickle thanx to anyone who can help me. I also charge the battery on slow(turtle) not fast (rabbit)

Don't use the gel setting. That has a low max voltage and will charge much more slowly. Everstarts are conventional batteries.

Trickle charging is not good for a battery. It generally puts 2 amps into the battery regardless of the state. You want a charger that has a float mode that maintains a small charge current below the gassing level to keep the battery at full charge without boiling the electrolyte.

Select STD mode to charge your battery. That allows full voltage on the battery rather than limiting it for a gel. I'd run it at the faster charge mode and just leave it alone. The charger will switch to low rate when the battery is finished charging to maintain it.

the idiots at schumacher told me to charge it on gel at 10 amps i really appreciate your help. ive been charging it like that for a year
