I'm having issues with my motor and am to the point I might just buy new. I'm lookin them up and want to know......what exactly is the different between the stadard and the Bigfoot? The bigfoot is heavier and the gear ratio is a little more. I think 2.08:1 and 2.48:1 for the bigfoot. What does this mean exactly and is it worth the price gap?
a bigfoot is just that, bigger gears. they are for pushing heavier loads. i wouldn't get one if it were me unless i was puting it on a pontoon boat. bigfoot=torque and low end, not speed.
I have a 50 bigfoot on my Lowe RV170 and it pushes it 30 mph at 4800 rpms, and it does awsome on fuel usage.
It really depends on what size and weight of boat you are putting it on. The difference in gearing allows for different prop options. If you are pushing a bigger heavier boat the 248 gears might be a better option. If it is a small lightweight boat the 208 gears would work fine. What HP motor is on it now, what pitch prop are you running, and were you happy with the performance when it was running right?
