HB 898 menu question
I just updated both of my 898's with the new 6.180 software. This is the first time I have had my units powered up on the kitchen table with no GPS puck attached. I noticed that in normal mode I have no "nav" or "chart" tabs in my main menu but I still have them in simulator mode. Is this just because a puck needs to be hooked up for these tabs to be available? Like I said, every other time I had a puck to attach to the unit but now the pucks are mounted on the boat so this is the first time with no puck hooked up. In simulator mode I have all of the tabs and all of the new features from the update. Thanks.

Kenny,
Your unit is working correctly. When in the Normal operating mode the unit only shows those menus and Views for the accessories that are attached and detected by the unit. Without the GPS Receiver connected and sending a signal; the unit will not display any GPS related Views and menus. When in the (Point Of Purchase) Simulator mode the unit is supposed to simulate having all of the accessories connected.
If you want to look at the GPS menus and save changes while inside, than try this:
Turn your unit on in the forced Simulator mode by doing the following:
1.) Power the unit on by using the power button.
2.) While the unit is still going through its start up procedure it should show the Title Screen. Something like “Humminbird 898c Si” will be shown on the display. While it is still showing this; press the MENU button.
3.) The unit should change to show three different menu options: Normal, Simulator and System Status. Use the Up/Down Arrow to select “Simulator” and than press the Right Arrow button.
The unit should now be in the forced Simulator mode and should simulate a GPS Receiver being connected to it which means you will have the GPS related Views and menus. The unit will remember any changes that you make to it, so be careful and do not delete any waypoints you really want to keep!
